Leeds United have set an asking price of up to £4m for former Plymouth Argyle loanee Darko Gyabi.

Leeds United are holding out for a fee of up to £4m for Darko Gyabi after his loan spell at Plymouth last season.

The England youth international joined the Whites from Man City for £5m in the summer of 2022, around the time that Kalvin Phillips made the move in the opposite direction.

Whilst Gyabi was very much signed with the long-term in mind, he has struggled to get near the first-team at Elland Road, which is why he has spent the past 18 months out on loan at Plymouth.

And, it now appears Leeds are ready to sanction a permanent transfer for Gyabi, as reporter Joe Donnohue revealed that the 21-year-old is one of three youngsters who will be allowed to depart in a deal, with the newly-promoted side seeking up to £4m for the player.

Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood & Darko Gyabi could leave Leeds this summer, if the right offer is received. Sources indicate an asking price around £3m-£4m for each player, which wouldn't exclude too many Ch'ship clubs. Foreign interest is also a possibility.”

Even though that will see Leeds make a small loss on the player, the reality is that Gyabi is unlikely to have a future at Elland Road, and with his contract expiring in 2026, it makes sense for the club to cash in at this stage.

Given his connection to Plymouth over the past 18 months, a permanent switch to Home Park would appear to make sense.

However, Argyle’s relegation to League One means a transfer now feels highly unlikely.

Firstly, you can’t imagine the Green Army will be in a position to spend £3-4m on one player, and the budget they do have available will be used to strengthen different areas of the squad.

Furthermore, whilst Gyabi was inconsistent during his time at Plymouth, there were flashes of undoubted quality, which is why he was named as the Young Player of the Year. So, he will feel he is capable of playing in the Championship, and it would be no surprise if there was serious interest from clubs in the second tier.

Ultimately, it seems as though Gyabi’s association with Plymouth is over, and the focus for all connected to Argyle is on appointing a new manager and putting things in place to ensure they can bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.
