Recent form

Spurs have only won once in their last 10 Premier League fixtures, against Crystal Palace before the turn of the year. Their most recent defeat came against Manchester United at the weekend, in which they were down to ten-men after Cristian Romero was sent off half an hour in.

Newcastle have also struggled to win in the Premier League, with their last coming victory over a month ago against Leeds. A late goal from Dango Ouattara made sure they were beaten by Brentford last time out at St James’ Park.

What’s been said?

Spurs boss Thomas Frank: “I was so annoyed that we couldn’t get anything out of the United game. Because that would have been five games and I was convinced 11 against 11 and we would have gotten something out of it.

“Of course, you never know, but there were five games where we were positive and then we could really try to turn a corner.

“When you haven’t won enough, you need to be desperate, because if you’re not desperate, you don’t understand how can I say, the situation you’re in, in terms of you don’t win enough, you need to turn it and win enough football games. That’s what we want for the fans. That’s what we want for the team, for the club.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe: “There’s no doubt in my mind and that’s why I’m sat here. If there was, then I wouldn’t be, because the club’s the most important thing. I’d never put myself before the club.

“As long as I feel that in my heart and my spirit, then my desire and motivation levels are as high as they’ve ever been. I’ll fight every day to my maximum for the club.”
