Huddersfield Town are mourning Roy Ellam, a club great and former Leeds United defender, who has died aged 83, as supporters pay tribute.

The club said in a statement on social media that they were saddened to learn of his passing earlier this week, and sent their thoughts to his family and loved ones.

Born in Hemsworth, Ellam was a defender who had two spells with Huddersfield in the 1960s and 1970s, making more than 200 appearances.

He also played for Bradford City and Leeds United, and during his Elland Road spell he was part of a First Division side.

Supporters have shared memories and condolences, calling him a true Town legend and praising his heading ability and character.

Fans including Rob Barker, Keith Pogson, Si Fern and Graham Smith recalled his presence and stories from the pub he ran in the 1990s, where he spoke about his footballing days with Frank Worthington and Norman Hunter.
