Leeds United are saddened to hear of the passing of former defender Roy Ellam, aged 83.
The defender joined the Whites in 1972 after lengthy spells with fellow West Yorkshire sides Bradford City and Huddersfield Town.
Signing for the club under legendary boss Don Revie, Ellam was part of the team that lifted the First Division trophy after being crowned champions in 1974.
In total, Roy featured 21 times across two years, including six times in Europe, despite fierce competition within the squad, culminating in a second top-flight title for United.
Following that historic campaign, the centre-half returned to the Terriers before enjoying time in the United States with clubs in Philadelphia and Washington.
Everyone at Leeds United would like to send our condolences to Roy’s friends and family at this time. Rest in peace.
