‘I don’t care’ – Hugo Ekitike opens up on his €80m Liverpool transfer fee | OneFootball

Liverpool centre-forward Hugo Ekitike (23) has hit the ground running with the Reds on the back of his big-money transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Premier League champions agreed to a €80m transfer fee, with a further €12m in performance-related bonuses, with Die Adler to sign the promising Reims Academy graduate.

The weight of the transfer fee doesn’t seem to hamper Ekitike so far. The France international has already logged four goals in all competitions with Arne Slot’s Premier League champions. Ekitike endeared himself even more to the Anfield faithful this Saturday in finding the back of Jordan Pickford’s net during the Merseyside Derby, which Liverpool won.

Quizzed by Canal+ on how he handled expectations regarding his transfer fee, Ekitike’s response was short: “I don’t care.” The 23-year-old added that he only focuses on the game. “Everything that can be said on the outside, the transfer fee, it is what it is. Football changed. You have a big price tag on your back? Just play football.“
