Germany lost on penalties to Paraguay in the round of 32, losing aWorld Cup shootout for the first time. Their early exit follows group stage eliminations in 2018 and 2022, with the four-time world champions enduring a difficult period on the international stage.

In the immediate aftermath, formerLiverpool boss Klopp has been linked with the role. However, Klopp, who is the current Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, said he has not thought about the prospect of replacing Nagelsmann.

He toldMagentaTV: "I haven't thought about that yet. I understand that my name is being mentioned now. But it's not the time to talk about that."

Klopp has been out of football management since leaving Liverpool in 2024. He has repeatedly suggested that there are no guarantees that he will return to the dugout.

Nagelsmann keen to continue with Germany despite World Cup exit and Klopp links

Nagelsmann was defiant despite the shock defeat and said he wants to continue in his role. The 38-year-old said he wants to lead Germany into the 2028 European Championship, which will be co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.

“I am not someone who runs away. This is not the first time this has happened, and there are some things about today that need to be changed.

"But if the DFB wants me to continue I am going to continue. I know the mechanics of football, I know how the industry works. I know a lot of people will want me to leave but I would love to continue if the football association wants me to.”
