Xavi Simons says he is confident that he will start to show the Tottenham fans more of what he is capable of.

The Dutchman has endured a difficult start to life at the club following his summer move from RB Leipzig but played an important role as his side thrashed FC Copenhagen 4-0 in the Champions League.

And the 22-year-old is confident he can build on his performance, which also saw him set up Brennan Johnson, who was later sent off, for his side’s first of the night.

“Obviously people want to perform and to play good,” Simons told TNT Sports after the game.

“I came into a new situation that has never happened to me before and I have to keep working, to trust in myself and I have my team-mates have my back so I’m not worried about that.

“I know what I can bring to the team so I will keep working hard and things will come, 100%.

“It’s a new place. It was the first time that it was a little bit hard for me but I will never let myself down, I will keep working. Nobody will keep me on the ground and I will keep going forward.”

Spurs’ victory saw them bounce back from the home defeat to rivals Chelsea on Saturday in which they were booed by supporters following the full-time whistle.

And Simons says his side owed the fans a victory.

“It was really important to bounce back from last weekend and to come here in front of the fans and win,” he added.
