West Brom will already be squad planning for the summer of 2026.

Although the 2025/26 season is still in its early stages with plenty of football left to play, there is no time to rest in football. Ryan Mason and Co. will constantly be assessing who they want to keep in their current squad and what areas they believe need to be improved upon.

The Baggies have started the current season in solid fashion and sit seventh in the standings after nine games, just five points behind league leaders Coventry City.

When looking ahead to the future, Albion will have to assess the players whose contracts are set to expire next summer. Players such as Josh Maja, Samuel Iling-Junior and Daryl Dike are all set to exit the Hawthorns at this moment in time, giving West Brom plenty of work to do.

Another operator who has less than a year remaining on his deal is Karlan Grant, who moved to the Black Country outfit in 2020.

Grant was brought in from Huddersfield Town for £15 million, after enjoying a brilliant 2019/20 campaign with the Terriers, where he scored 19 goals in 44 appearances.

The 28-year-old’s impact on Albion’s fortunes have lessened over the past few years and it still remains uncertain whether he will be offered a new deal at the Hawthorns.

Football League World’s West Brom fan pundit, Callum Burgess, believes that Grant has been performing at a solid level recently, but doesn’t foresee a contract extension for the attacker.

“I do think that he can be a key player for us this season as we are still lacking attacking depth,” stated Callum. “He gives us the option to play Mikey Johnston on the right.

“But I'd be surprised if this isn't Grant's last season at Albion.

He definitely hit heights during the 2021/22 season, where he was able to get 18 goals but I think last season was probably the season where Albion fans felt the most affection towards him.

“His work rate really went up a notch, and he was still able to contribute a few goals, but I think that this will be his last season in an Albion shirt.”

Karlan Grant will go down as a disappointing West Brom signing

When Grant was brought to the Hawthorns in 2020, there were great expectations about what he could achieve in the Baggies’ attack.

Given how well he had performed with Huddersfield, the prospect of seeing the attacker in a Premier League team was tantalising.

However, Albion struggled in the top-flight and were relegated straight back down to the second-tier, with Grant netting just once.

Back in the Championship, the 28-year-old scored 18 league goals for West Brom, but this is the best it would get for Grant.

Since the 2021/22 campaign, the forward has failed to net more than seven times in a season, which is a major drop-off from the peaks he currently reached.

Given that Grant was brought in for £15 million, losing him for free after multiple years of underperforming would be extremely disappointing for the Black County outfit, who would’ve expected much more when forking out such money for his services.
