If Calmac decided to link up with Brendan, you couldn’t blame him

The recent revelation that Callum McGregor has signed up for the same agency as Brendan Rodgers, has started tongues wagging in the footballing world…

It’s being suggested that the serial winning Celtic skipper might be about to be reunited with his former gaffer over in Saudi Arabia…

Callum has signed up with Unique Sports group which boasts several big names in it’s stable including his former manager, and it’s only natural that folk come to the conclusion that the Celtic captain could be ready to up sticks and join up with the Irishman at Al Qadsiah.

It’s not an outrageous thought, as it’s an entirely plausible to suggest such a claim. Indeed no-one would be too surprised to see such a scenario come to fruition.

Callum, who recently celebrated his 33rd birthday is one of the most decorated players, and captains to pull on the Hoops, and it could well be that he fancy’s a new challenge, with a massive life changing salary also a bit of a bonus!

A two or three year contract in the cash rich sun kissed Gulf State, and a completely stress free standard of living will undoubtedly appeal to the player who’s been at the club since he was a boy.

The man who won 63 caps for Scotland has very much seen and done it all at the club. League titles, trebles, doubles, Champions League football, he’s been there and wore the proverbial T-shirt.

With a couple of years still remaining on Callum’s contract, a fee would be required for his signature, but that wouldn’t be a problem for the cash rich Saudis.

Bumper contract, and a couple of year in the sun? Who says no?

Effectively Callum owes the club nothing, and if he decided it was a move that interested him, we couldn’t really blame him could we? Bumper contract, and a couple of year in the sun? Who says no?

It should also be remembered that this may have come to fruition after Callum’s comments towards the end of last season where he pointed out that his own loyalty to the club goes so far and if the Board didn’t back the manager then he’d be forced to look at his options.

After that it could come down to numbers. The Celtic captain is the highest paid player at Celtic but he could achieve a five fold or greater increase. Over three years that really is life changing.

The pull of the Celtic badge will be too strong

My view is that the pull of the Celtic badge will be too strong and Callum will stay on for another season at least. James Forrest has stated that he will NOT play for another club so when his time at Celtic ends he will hang up his boots.

Callum has never said that and he is free to put his own future ahead of Celtic’s needs if that is where his mind is at.

Many would only really appreciate how massive an influence he’s been at Celtic when he’s moved on. Hopefully that is NOT going to happen.
