Tottenham boss Igor Tudor says his players need to get out of their “comfort zone”.

Tudor has been in position for four games, and Tottenham have lost all of them. The most recent defeat was a 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 first leg.

Reflecting on the game, Tudor said: “In this moment it is difficult to speak about football, about tactics, about physicality, about what happened. But I can say that apart from that 15 minutes (at the start against Atletico Madrid), I saw progress. I saw more compactness, more quality of the playing, more structure, more energy, good pressing. So apart from that (15 minutes) it was an equal game.

“This can sound now very strange, but it is the truth. So we were there, second half, trying to do our things, which is not easy because psychologically what happened in that 15 minutes would kill anyone. I repeat, it is not easy to say what happened in those 15 minutes.”

Tudor has been criticised of late for his stern approach but asked if he criticises his players, the Croatian replied: “No, not criticism, I give advice. It is not about criticism of the players, we are together. It is not that I tell them, ‘you are not going to do this’, it is not about that. It is about that you make them understand that this is advice for you to become a better player and when you become a better player, we will become a better team.

“It is about accepting this, which sometimes is not easy because it is easy to stay in a comfort zone, when you stay in a comfort zone you don’t change. So it is a lot of time about that, to be ready to get out of the comfort zone and thinking that it is also about you why we are here. That is the main thing that the coach needs to give to the player. Responsibility needs to also be divided, but also accepted.”
