INEOS believe Ruben Amorim should qualify for Europe this season | OneFootball

Ruben Amorim is feeling the heat at Manchester United after a dreadful start to the new season.

The Premier League giants invested heavily in the squad over the summer, moving for players who fit into Amorim’s tactics. The Portuguese manager also had the full pre-season he so desired after taking charge in November last year.

Unfortunately, results have failed to improve so far.

United have managed 16 wins from 42 games last season across competitions under Amorim, while picking up just one win in five games this campaign.

The situation has added to speculation regarding the former Sporting manager’s future at the Theatre of Dreams.

Good performances without end results

United started the season with a refreshing performance against Arsenal, even though they lost the game 1-0. There were also moments of brilliance in the 1-1 draw against Fulham, before everything fell apart against minnows Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup Second Round.

United lost the game at Blundell Park against the League Two side and were knocked out of the tournament.

The 3-2 win against Burnley sent a wave of optimism among fans, although the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City burst a lot of bubbles.

The season, as a whole, has been a proper representation of Amorim’s time at the Theatre of Dreams; minute specs of blues amid a largely overcast sky.

Having decided to hold on to Amorim following a turbulent end to last season, many believe that INEOS could be called into action if the results fail to improve. Unai Emery, Oliver Glasner, and Indoni Iraola are some of the names being linked, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is available as well after parting ways with Besiktas.

However, it now appears that United’s minority owners are reluctant to throw in the towel just yet.

INEOS not planning a knee-jerk reaction

According to GIVEMESPORT, INEOS are reluctant to oversee another mid-season managerial upheaval and are confident that Amorim can turn things around. The Portuguese still has the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who believes that the squad is good enough to finish within the top four of the Premier League this season.

The general view of the club hierarchy is that the team has made enough progress to warrant a patient approach, so they are not exploring replacements just yet.

Amorim initially wanted to take charge in May this year, but was convinced to take the job midseason. INEOS backed him after the EFL Cup debacle against Grimsby Town, and their stance hasn’t changed yet.

As things stand, the final decision on the matter will be made at the end of the season review next year. Should Amorim fail to secure Champions League football, however, his position will come under threat.

All eyes, though, will be on the Chelsea game, as another poor result will further complicate the situation.
