Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is pushing to return for his team’s Serie A clash with Inter Milan “at all costs.”

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Bianconeri medical staff are making the 26-year-old a special protective vest for his rib injury.

Koopmeiners is one of a number of players whose fitness has caused headaches for Juventus coach Thiago Motta.

Motta will have to cope without Bremer for the remainder of the season in all likelihood. The Brazilian, who is the Bianconeri’s linchpin in defense, suffered a major ACL injury.

But then, the Bianconeri coach has also lost Koopmeiners for a spell.

The Dutchman suffered a rib injury during Juventus’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig. That was the same match in which Bremer had suffered his knee injury.

Despite the rib injury, Koopmeiners was able to start for Juventus in their last match before the international break, against Cagliari in Serie A.

However, the Dutchman had to come off at halftime.

It’s not yet clear exactly when Koopmeiners will be able to return.

The former Atalanta midfielder is not with the Dutch national team for the international break. Rather, he stayed back to focus on his recovery.

That means that Koopmeiners will likely miss at least a couple matches.

But it’s the following match that could prove really crucial in the Bianconeri’s season.

That will be the Derby d’Italia against Inter. This is a fixture that is always hotly contested, and furthermore could be pivotal in the title race.

Therefore, Koopmeiners is absolutely determined to be ready for that match.

Naturally, there is still uncertainty. Juventus will not take risks with the former Atalanta and AZ Alkmaar midfielder’s fitness.
