Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel is widely expected to sign for Inter Milan this summer, but the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee.

The Background

The 32-year-old has been a favorite of Maurizio Sarri across the latter’s two spells at Formello. However, new Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso has elected Christos Mandas as his first choice. The Greek custodian has returned from a forgettable loan spell at Bournemouth, who waived their option to buy him for €18 million.

Christos Mandas Will Be Lazio’s First Choice

Mandas will thus be handed the starting gloves, with the young and impressive Edoardo Motta acting as his understudy, and Alessio Furlanetto maintaining his role as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper. On the other hand, Provedel has been considered surplus to requirements, with both parties agreeing that their four-year collaboration must come to an end this summer.

Inter Milan Keen to Sign Ivan Provedel

After parting ways with Yann Sommer, Inter have pinpointed Provedel as the perfect profile to pair with Josep Martinez, who has been promoted to the No.1 role. The experienced Italian goalkeeper has an agreement in principle with the Serie A champions on personal terms. He is ready to sign a three-year deal with a salary of €1.5 million in addition to bonuses.

Inter’s Offer for Provedel Remains Short of the Mark

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio and Inter continue to negotiate a deal. The Biancocelesti have set their asking price at €4-5 million, while the Nerazzurri are only offering €2-2.5 million.

Therefore, the two clubs still have a small gap to bridge, and they’re expected to hold a new meeting in the coming days to reach a definitive agreement. With all parties eager to reach the finish line, they should be able to reach a solution.
