Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta has said “Inter and AC Milan will have to go elsewhere” if the drama surrounding San Siro remains unresolved.
The Italian businessman spoke to DAZN, with quotes via FCInterNews, prior to the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash against Sassuolo this evening.
Inter welcome the Neroverdi to San Siro as both sides look to get their season back on track.
This week, Milan City Council erupted into infighting over the decision to sell San Siro and the surrounding land to the two Milan clubs.
Marotta described the situation as “rather embarrassing, football in Milan is being sidelined.”
“We don’t meet the criteria to host the Champions League final,” he continued.
He then added, “And it isn’t among the stadiums chosen for Euro 2032.”
Meanwhile, Marotta criticised “conservative and not innovative” politicians who “have stepped in”.
The president described them as:
“People who don’t understand that Milan is one of the most beautiful cities in the world from a socio-economic and cultural perspective.
“Inter and Milan represent two institutions of excellence and they need to have a new stadium,” he continued.
“The two clubs must go elsewhere, if the issue is not resolved. That wouldn’t be good for the city.”
However, Marotta admitted he is “optimistic, I really appreciate Sala’s work. Let’s hope common sense prevails.”

Marotta also responded to a question on the club’s plans for Josep Martinez and Francesco Pio Esposito.
It was touch-and-go for Pio Esposito tonight.
However, Chivu has put his faith in the youngster as his captain regains fitness.
“We have the duty to look at both the present and the future,” Marotta said.
“It’s natural that some young players can be elements with future prospects.
“Consequently,” he continued, “it’s right for the coach to be able to use them to make further evaluations for the good of Inter.”
“Sommer is a very serious goalkeeper,” Marotta admitted.
“He took this rotation very well, which can be preparatory for Inter’s future.”
Finally, Marotta concluded that “Pio is a talent.”
“He has all the qualities not only technically and athletically, but also humanly – he’s a very intelligent boy.”
