Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez could reportedly follow in the footsteps of Serie A legend Gianluca Vialli this season. 

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, El Toro may equal a historic feat, dating back to the early 1990s.

Lautaro Martinez is on the verge of winning his second Capocannoniere award since joining Inter in 2018.

Indeed, the Argentine striker won Serie A’s golden boot in the 2023/24 season with 24 goals as the Nerazzurri hoisted the Scudetto.

Now, he is leading the way in the race for the division’s top scorer with 16 goals.

Gianluca Vialli won the award in 1991 despite failing to smash a 20-goal barrier. Indeed, he netted 19 goals for Sampdoria that year.

With only six games left and Lautaro unable to shake off a calf injury, he appears to be on the verge of equaling Vialli’s feat.

Moreover, it’s hard to see anyone overtaking the 28-year-old in the pecking order down the final stretch.
