Kompany is therefore likely to make adjustments to individual positions

Manuel Neuer will be back in goal after serving his cup suspension, while Dayot Upamecano will return in defence after a short break due to stress management. Jonathan Tah is expected to start alongside the Frenchman, with Josip Stanisic on the right and Konrad Laimer on the left

In midfield, Kompany may opt for a double-six with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, with the more robust Goretzka likely to be preferred to Aleksandar Pavlovic in Berlin

In attack, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz are the likely starters on the wings, while Serge Gnabry is likely to play centrally behind Harry Kane. Kane should continue to start up front and provide goals despite the heavy workload

Bayern’s likely starting XI at a glance: Neuer – Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Laimer – Kimmich, Goretzka – Olise, Gnabry, Diaz – Kane

Union coach Steffen Baumgart said at the pre-match press conference when asked if he believes Bayern are currently more vulnerable and beatable than at the start of the season: „I don’t know. The fact is that Bayern have only lost one game against Arsenal – and in my opinion Bayern weren’t the worse team in that game, Arsenal just had a few moments where they did the right thing. I don’t think Bayern have become weaker. They beat Freiburg 6-2 after being 2-0 down. Against St. Pauli they hit the post three times. If those balls had gone in, there wouldn’t be such discussions. I think Bayern are just as good as before.“

The probable Union starting eleven at a glance: Rönnow – Doekhi, Querfeld, Diogo Leite – Trimmel, R. Khedira, Köhn – Schäfer, Haberer – Ilic, Ansah
