The start of the World Cup is around the corner, and every national team knows it. Argentina will face Honduras tonight at Kyle Field, Texas. The defending champions will play their first friendly match before their tournament debut.
With plenty of injuries in the squad, Lionel Scaloni must be careful about which players he starts against the CONCACAF nation and who deserves a rest.
In the last days, reports suggest that Lionel Messi was in doubt for this game, due to a muscle strain. So, the crucial question here is whether Inter Miami’s captain will play in Argentina's first friendly match.
As the last World Cup champions, Argentina arrived at this competition with high self-esteem. However, as time goes by, the Albiceleste started to have too many injured players on their roster.
Recently, this team received the news that Balerdi, one of their defenders, was out of the World Cup due to an injury sustained during training. So this started to worry the head coach, and he decided to rest some players for this encounter.
Still, it has been confirmed that Lionel Messi will not be part of the starting lineup against Honduras and will not be on the bench either.
The Argentine star spent the week training separately to recover from his muscle strain as quickly as possible.
This season, Messi has been crucial for Inter Miami, but it may seem he has played too many games ahead of the World Cup.
Nevertheless, it is publicly known that if he is healthy, the former FC Barcelona captain wants to play at all costs.
Nowadays, the Argentine national squad can play without Messi on the field, but everyone knows that having the best player is a plus that every rival is afraid of, because you don’t know how he is going to hurt you.
