This is the second day since the beggining of the World Cup. Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina are battling for the win, but hours after this game, the USMNT will face Paraguay on their World Cup debut at Sofi Stadium.
Paraguay arrives at this tournament after putting together a solid qualifying campaign to reach the biggest stage in international soccer.
Still, the Albirroja hasn’t qualified for a World Cup since 2010, meaning this match will be interesting to watch.
Paraguay has Miguel Almiron as its key player. However, the question remains if Gustavo Alfaro, Paraguay’s manager, will start the Five Stripes player tonight against the USMNT.
Paraguay wants to finish on top of Group D, and for that, they have to beat the favourite: the USMNT.
Based on their recent friendly matches against Senegal and Germany, the US team has demonstrated an explosive attacking front and a midfield that is both tactical and physically strong.
To win this encounter, Alfaro must put all the meat on the barbecue, meaning he has to put his best players from the start.
With this being said, Miguel Almiron, the Albirroja’s captain, will be in the starting lineup for tonight's game against one of the World Cup’s hosts.
The Atlanta United winger would be a centric and crucial piece if Paraguay wants to win. As solid as the USMNT may be in several areas, it has also shown weaknesses when tracking back on the flanks and covering the spaces behind its midfielders.
That is where Paraguay's biggest opportunity lies, especially with its star player in outstanding form. However, the South American team must not neglect their backs, because when you don’t expect, Pulisic, Dest, or Bolagun appears and scores a goal.
It’s been 16 years since we’ve seen the Albirroja in the World Cup, so you can count on them to put up a great fight in that group.
