Isaac Schmidt is expected to leave Leeds United permanently this summer, with Basel and Young Boys interested, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk. Leeds anticipate a parting after two years.

The 26-year-old joined from St Gallen in 2024 for about £2.5m on a four-year deal, making 14 appearances, 12 in the Championship, before a 2025/26 loan. He never started a league game under Daniel Farke.

On loan at Werder Bremen, he started six Bundesliga matches and made 13 substitute appearances. He scored on debut but added no further goals or assists as Werder stayed up by six points. The club declined a permanent move.

Basel and Young Boys finished fifth and sixth in last season’s Swiss Super League Championship group, missing out on Europe. Leeds are expected to sanction several permanent exits this window.

Fellow loanee Max Wober’s Bremen season was wrecked by injury, limiting him to two Bundesliga outings, and Werder did not take up their option. He is also expected to leave Leeds, though his situation is complicated by his fitness record.

“So far, relatively little [discussions on the future]. I'm pretty sure I won't be the most sought-after player at Leeds United anymore. That much is clear to me. We'll see how things develop,” he told DAB Der Audiobeweis.

“So it's really important for me to participate in preseason training again. And then we'll see what happens next, what Leeds’ plan is, what's happening in the transfer market.”
