Isaac Schmidt ‘set to join’ Young Boys as Leeds start summer clear-out | OneFootball

Leeds United are preparing to begin their summer clear-out, with Isaac Schmidt set to return to Switzerland to join Young Boys, Der Bund reports.

The 26-year-old arrived from St Gallen for £2.5 million in summer 2024 but failed to start a league game under Daniel Farke. He spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

The race for his signature is said to be virtually over, with Young Boys beating FC Basel. He is earmarked to strengthen the right-back role as the Bern club refresh their defence.

With Lewin Blum expected to depart and Ryan Andrews sidelined by a knee injury, Schmidt has been promised a clear route to consistent first-team minutes.

His Leeds spell returned 14 senior outings and 251 minutes, largely in cup ties. Bremen opted against taking up a purchase option at the end of his loan.

Schmidt earns a base salary of €600,000, about £9,800 per week, so an exit would ease Leeds’ wage bill and support Farke’s recruitment. Regular football in Bern is seen as vital to reviving his Switzerland ambitions.
