Karl Darlow has joined Manchester United after rejecting Leeds United’s offer of a new contract, describing the move as a special opportunity. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds could not guarantee him the starting role due to plans to recruit a keeper this summer.
The 35-year-old Wales international chose Manchester United instead of remaining at Elland Road. He departs after helping Leeds win promotion back to the Premier League and then stay up.
In a farewell message on Instagram, set to Olivia Dean’s Ok Love You Bye, he thanked team-mates, coaches, staff and supporters. He called his time at Leeds a special chapter, expressed pride in promotion and said he will follow the club from afar. His sign-off is unlikely to resonate with many Leeds supporters given the rivalry.
He is extremely proud to sign for United and highlighted a strong goalkeeping group committed to maintaining the standards the club demands. He cannot wait to support his team-mates and help drive the group forward.
Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Darlow’s proven top-level pedigree, work ethic and determination, calling him a strong addition to an excellent goalkeeping group. The club described his quality and experience as valuable additions.
