Sweden have lost Isak Hien for the rest of the World Cup after the defender was injured against Japan, a setback before they face France in the round of 32.
The Swedish federation announced on Friday that the Atalanta centre-back suffered a left hamstring injury in the first half of Thursday’s 1-1 draw and will now return to his club.
Hien, 27, has 31 caps and started Sweden’s first three matches at the tournament.
Head coach Graham Potter has offered his support to Hien, as has the rest of the squad.
Sweden meet France on Tuesday at 23:00 in New York. Hien could be replaced by Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall, 20, who has 13 caps.
