Jack Grealish has undergone surgery on his left foot and will miss the rest of the season, ruling the Everton and England winger out of the World Cup.

The stress fracture was sustained on 18 January during a Premier League match against his former club, Aston Villa. On Monday, the player said in a post that he was gutted and will now focus on getting fit.

The setback is a major blow for Everton. Grealish has 39 caps and four goals for England.

Now 30, he is on loan at Everton from Manchester City with an option to buy of around 58 million euros, having struggled at City since his arrival.

Before the injury, he had been regaining confidence with his new club, producing two goals and six assists in 22 matches in all competitions.
