Luis de la Fuente has named a 26-man Spain squad for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with no Valencia player included. According to AS, Javi Guerra has been called as one of nine support players to train at Las Rozas from 30 May to 4 June.
Competition for midfield places is fierce, with Pedri, Fabián Ruiz, Zubimendi, Gavi, Rodri Hernández, Alex Baena and Mikel Merino among those selected. Guerra’s chances were limited, yet he will join the opening week of camp alongside the 26.
Guerra was the only Valencia player on De la Fuente’s 55-man pre-list. He ended the campaign strongly, leading the Mestalla midfield and scoring two goals in the final two rounds, though his form across the season was irregular, like the rest of his team-mates.
The other eight support players are Beñat Turrientes, Javi Rodríguez, Jesús Rodríguez, Leo Román, Marca Bernal, Gonzalo García, Jon Martín and Sergio Gómez.
All will remain with the group until the day of the friendly against Iraq in La Coruña on 4 June.
