Manchester City fans have every reason to be excited with the emergence of a new ‘connection’ on the pitch, as pointed out by star performer Jeremy Doku this week.
The 23-year-old put in one of Manchester City’s best individual performances of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday night, giving Juventus’ rearguard a torrid time throughout his outing on the field.
With a sensational goal to his name, Jeremy Doku also completed the most successful dribbles out of any player on the pitch, winning the most ground duels in that time too, and showcased an exciting new combination with one of Pep Guardiola’s new signings.
Running in-behind for his first goal and City’s opener in the contest, it was Rayan Ait-Nouri who found the Belgian with an inch-perfect pass and subsequent assist, as the duo combined to perfection throughout their time on the pitch down the left-hand side.
Speaking to reporters after Manchester City’s 2-5 win over Juventus, Jeremy Doku was keen to insist upon the freedom he is enjoying within his game at present, enjoying time on the pitch stress-free.
“I’m grateful for every opportunity I have on the pitch. Honestly, I’m happy and I play free, I play with peace,” Doku told broadcast interviews after the game.
Continuing in his conversation with in-house Manchester City media crew, Doku further insisted, “I’m happy; I feel that I’m playing with peace, I feel that I’m playing without stress, with freedom.”
“This is a big team [Juventus] in Europe and I think a 5-2 win against them is not nothing,” the Belgium international pointed out in direct reference to the victory over the Italian giants.
One name that did excel alongside the performance of Doku is new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri, who put in his second successive impressive performance for the club from the role of left-back, building upon his outing against Al Ain on matchday two of the group stage.
“Honestly he’s a top player! He’s settled so quick and can play on the inside, outside,” Jeremy Doku said of his new teammate.
“It’s a joy to play with him, he speaks French as well, so honestly the connection is there and I’m happy he’s here with us.”
Given Doku and Ait-Nouri’s bright combination for Manchester City down the left against Juventus, there is now a high chance that Pep Guardiola could look towards the due once more from the start against Al-Hilal next week.
It will also be a stern test for former Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo at the Camping World Stadium, as he would be expected to take on Guardiola’s in-form duo from the role of right-back under Simone Inzaghi.
The Premier League side have now found out that the meeting with the Saudi Pro League side will be their last-16 clash, while the winners of Inter against Fluminense will await in the quarter-finals of the competition.
