Jeremy Sarmiento has joined Championship side Middlesbrough on loan from Brighton until the end of the season, with an option to buy. The club said the 23-year-old Ecuadorian winger was confirmed yesterday, and the option’s value was not disclosed.
He spent the first half of the campaign at Cremonese in Serie A, also on loan from Brighton. He made seven league appearances totalling 136 minutes, without a goal or assist.
Sarmiento previously had a four-year spell at Benfica. Signed in summer 2018, he played two seasons with the under-18s, then featured for the under-23s in 2020 to 2021. In total he registered 56 appearances and 11 goals.
He has been in the news in England in recent days after a low-key first half of the season. He is valued at €5 million.
He is seeking continuity through to 2025/26, as he is not in Brighton’s current plans.
