Manchester United gave Jude Bellingham, now at Real Madrid, a tour of their training ground around five years ago.
At the time, Bellingham was making waves in the Championship with Birmingham City, and United launched a charm offensive to convince the Englishman to move to Old Trafford.
However, the Red Devils were beaten to his signature by Borussia Dortmund, who also won the race to sign his brother, Jobe, from Sunderland in July of this year. Now, the Premier League giants are reported to be interested in bringing the 20-year-old back to England.
Bellingham decided to follow his brother’s footsteps despite interest from several clubs in England after leading Sunderland to the Premier League promotion.
The England U21 international, who is known for his versatility in the middle of the park, impressed with his athleticism in England’s second tier.
The right-footed midfielder possesses a strong frame which allows him to carry the ball from deep. He is also very good at getting in the box and on the end of things. Accordingly, he has been compared to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
However, he has yet to find his feet in the Bundesliga, managing to earn just two league starts under Niko Kovac so far. Further, the relationship between his camp and the club’s hierarchy is thought to be tense.
According to Fichajes, Bellingham is on United’s priority list heading into the winter transfer window.
It is claimed United are “already considering” making an offer of around €50m to sign him from Dortmund in January.
The German outfit ideally want Bellingham to stay and realise his potential at the club, akin to his brother. Still, a compelling offer could change their stance, just six months after his arrival.
United, meanwhile, are determined to strengthen their midfield mid-season and have made contact to explore the conditions of a potential deal.
It is added that the Mancunians may find it difficult to reach an agreement with Bellingham, as he is keen to play in the Champions League.
