José Martínez has bid farewell to Corinthians in a social media video, posted on Tuesday, one week after his release was recorded on the CBF BID.
The clip shows highlights and goals with a narration on the club’s stature and the Fiel. The player said in a post that his message stressed fight and commitment, and a story still being written, ending with a rallying cry for Corinthians.
Under the agreement with his representatives, Corinthians will cover 30% of his wages from February to December this year, excluding January, and have paid for surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Although the contract was due to run until December 2027, the club will have no financial obligations next year.
The board had been exploring ways to end the deal after he reported back more than a month late due to passport renewal issues in Venezuela. On returning to CT Joaquim Grava he was injured, a setback that could rule him out for all of 2026.
During his holidays, images showed him in a festive match in Venezuela wearing protection on his left knee, and in other clips he appeared to limp. That episode, plus the delay, irritated head coach Dorival Júnior and the hierarchy.
Martínez joined Parque São Jorge in August 2024 from Philadelphia Union for 2 million dollars, about R$ 10.9 million at the time. Corinthians were punished by Fifa for delaying payment of the transfer. He made 70 appearances, scored two goals, provided two assists and was part of the Paulistão and 2025 Copa do Brasil winners.
