Fresh details suggest José Mourinho’s Benfica future is under scrutiny after the draw with Casa Pia in Rio Maior, and he is said to be prepared for all scenarios.
Record writes that Mourinho knows that if Benfica do not recover from recent poor results, the prospect of him leaving will gather pace, and the 63-year-old even accepts he may depart for those reasons.
He is contracted to Benfica until summer 2027, but a provision could ease an exit between 17 and 27 May if both parties agree, reducing the severance due. Even so, Mourinho wants to renew.
Despite his stance, Rui Costa has resisted offering an extension, and it is considered likely that no renewal will be tabled at season’s end, the report said.
Mourinho views a new deal as a vote of confidence from the board. The 2026/27 campaign is already being mapped out by the club hierarchy, with Mourinho involved in meetings with Rui Costa and Mário Branco.
