José Mourinho is closely tracking Benfica loanee André Gomes and wants to look at him in the club’s next pre-season, according to Glorioso 1904.

The coach plans an in-person assessment by bringing the 21-year-old into preparations for 2026/27. That step follows his displays for Alverca, currently 10th in the league, who lost to Benfica in the last round.

Benfica’s hierarchy are encouraged by his progress and Mourinho aims to see whether that level can translate into a meaningful first-team contribution.

A return could prompt a contract update. Gomes is tied to Benfica until June 2028, and a renewal is possible to further secure his future.

This season at Alverca, the under-21 international, valued at €2.5m, has played 20 matches, all in Liga Portugal Betclic. Across 1,890 minutes he has conceded 33 goals, yet has produced a positive campaign under Custódio Castro.
