Liverpool’s potential interest in Yan Diomande was discussed on Media Matters for Anfield Index, as Dave Davis and David Lynch moved the conversation towards possible arrivals after the expected appointment of Andoni Iraola.
Davis framed the situation by saying: “As well as Iraola, we’re all now hoping for next news, aren’t we?” He then referenced PSG becoming “champions of Europe” and added: “We know they’re in the mix for Yan Diomande. We know they own Bradley Barcola.”
Lynch’s response placed Diomande, who has scored 13 goals this season, firmly in the Liverpool transfer discussion. “Diomande kind of number one target in that position,” he said, before adding: “Let’s see what happens there.”
That was the clearest line from the podcast. Liverpool’s attacking plans are not only about appointing Iraola, they are also about giving the next head coach the right options in forward areas.
The Anfield Index discussion also focused on the competition Liverpool may face. Davis mentioned PSG directly, and Lynch explained why that could be a significant factor.
“Liverpool want him,” Lynch said. “He’s got a decision to make about where he goes.”
He also said Diomande has “got a decision to make over whether he signs that new contract or not,” before adding: “I kind of lean towards that he will leave.”
That made the situation sound open rather than settled. Liverpool appear interested, but the player’s choice may decide the direction of the move.
Lynch described PSG as “extremely attractive,” which is understandable given the context Davis had raised. But he also questioned what Diomande’s role would be there.
The strongest Liverpool angle came when Lynch compared the possible pathways. Speaking about PSG, he said: “What’s his role going to be there?”
He then listed the attacking options already at PSG, saying: “They have Doue, they have Dembele, they have Kvaratskhelia.” Lynch also noted that “you can make the case that Barcola will probably leave,” but still questioned whether Diomande would have the same opportunity in Paris.
By contrast, Lynch suggested Liverpool may offer a more immediate opening. “Is he going to have as big of a role as if he’d come to Liverpool and he could start immediately in the team?” he asked.
That line was important. If Liverpool can present Diomande with a convincing first team pathway, it may become a key part of their pitch.
Lynch added: “I think there’s more on offer for him there.” He also said “the Premier League is extremely attractive as well.”

Despite Liverpool’s interest, Lynch was clear that this is not simply a club led decision. “It’s in the player’s head,” he said. “It’s all up to him.”
That leaves Liverpool waiting, especially while the wider summer picture continues to shift around Iraola, squad depth and attacking recruitment.
The discussion did not confirm a completed move, nor did it provide detailed claims about RB Leipzig. The podcast focused on Liverpool wanting Diomande, PSG also being in the mix, the question of the player’s role, and whether the Premier League pathway could appeal.
