Journalist reveals Chelsea’s plans for Raheem Sterling amid “bomb squad” exile | OneFootball

Chelsea have plans set in place for Raheem Sterling after the winger failed to leave the club during the transfer window.

Sterling was available all summer, and despite interest from clubs, Chelsea didn’t receive any offers for the England international.

The 30-year-old’s career has been on a steady decline since making a £50m switch from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Sterling is said to have had interest from as many as five clubs, but his desire to remain in London made securing a move more difficult.

The winger had a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season, where he managed just one goal in 28 appearances.

Sterling is currently back at Chelsea training in the now infamous “bomb squad” away from the first team with Axel Disasi.

Simon Jordan has accused Sterling of caring more about money than playing football, whilst Chelsea have been investigated by the PFA in regards to their treatment of the player.

The former Man City star is set to remain in the wilderness until January at the earliest, however journalist Graeme Bailey has provided an update on the situation.

“Sterling was a bit different,” he told TBR Football.

“There were options there for him, Fulham, West Ham, Palace, because he only really wants to stay in London, but it didn’t quite work out.

“Fulham, for example, had other options; they almost took Tyrique George from Chelsea.

“So I think Sterling will move in the January window.

“I think he’ll realise that there’s not much else he can do.

“With the set of moves available, he just didn’t fancy it. Sterling’s situation isn’t quite the same, but it is what it is.

“When you’ve got a bomb squad, that’s just football now. Look at [Manchester] United. They’re not the only team dealing with this sort of thing.”

Sterling isn’t the only player in this position at Chelsea, with Disasi also facing a bleak few months in the wilderness.

The Frenchman reportedly turned down offers from Premier League clubs on deadline day, whilst a late move to Monaco is also believed to have fallen through.

Disasi should have offers in January, and given his wages he should be easier to find a solution for than Sterling, but there’s no guarantees.
