Rodrygo Links Downplayed as Liverpool Enter Decisive Transfer Week

Liverpool find themselves at a critical stage of the summer transfer window, with speculation continuing to swirl around potential attacking reinforcements. The Premier League champions began the window with intensity, but momentum has since slowed as Arne Slot’s side weigh up their next moves.

Focus Remains on Alexander Isak Pursuit

Liverpool’s priority remains clear. Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is the club’s preferred target to bolster the frontline, with the hierarchy reluctant to look beyond the Sweden international at this stage. Negotiations have proven complicated, with Newcastle maintaining a strong stance that Isak is not available for transfer.

That said, a breakthrough could depend on whether Newcastle themselves secure another striker before the deadline. If progress is not made, Liverpool are expected to revisit the deal in January rather than compromise on their top choice.

As Ian Doyle explained, “there is likely to be no plan B for Alexander Isak, as he is the ideal target for Liverpool, and that if they do not secure the services of the Swedish international before September 1st, they will return in the New Year to see if there is a bigger chance of Newcastle United letting him go then.”

Rodrygo Rumours Dismissed

Alongside Isak, Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has been tentatively linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks. The Brazilian has long been admired by Liverpool, and speculation mounted amid suggestions that his future under Xabi Alonso could be uncertain.

However, Doyle has downplayed the chances of any move materialising. He noted, “Talk of Rodrygo of Real Madrid appears agent-driven and his reported financial package wouldn’t make much sense for the Reds.”

The finances involved in such a transfer are viewed as prohibitive, particularly at a time when Liverpool’s resources are focused on their primary target. While the thought of signing a player from Real Madrid holds appeal, the numbers do not align with the club’s transfer strategy.

Critical Week Ahead for Liverpool

Liverpool’s forward line has been weakened by the departures of Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz and Ben Doak, underlining the urgency of adding depth before the window closes. The ambition to secure Isak continues to dominate internal discussions, yet the lack of alternative options leaves the club in a challenging position.

The coming days will prove crucial. Liverpool are balancing the long-term ambition of signing Isak with the short-term need to provide Arne Slot with attacking reinforcements. If no deal is concluded this summer, attention may turn to January, though the risk remains of entering the first half of the season with a lighter frontline than intended.

The Reds have made their intentions clear, and with just a week remaining, their approach in the final stretch of the window will shape not only the months ahead but potentially the trajectory of the season.
