Journalist squashes rumours of Real Madrid identifying Zidane as Xabi Alonso’s replacement | OneFootball

In recent days, reports circulated suggesting that the former manager was being considered as an alternative should current coach Xabi Alonso depart.

However, those whispers have been decisively squashed by journalist Jose Felix Diaz, who has given a comprehensive view on Real Madrid feel about Alonso and Zidane.

No talks between Zidane and Real Madrid

As Diaz reported via Diario AS, the reports of a new meeting between Real Madrid and Zidane aimed at securing his services are simply untrue. The club have maintained its position, confirming that no managerial change is being planned.

Neither last spring nor now has any alternative been considered for the Real Madrid bench as per the report.

While the personal relationship between Zidane and the club remains “good,” the prospect of a renewed professional partnership is distant.

Zidane’s energy and excitement for a return to coaching are genuine, but his destination is clear.

The Frenchman is poised to become the new French national team coach as soon as the World Cup concludes, a move that has been planned for months.

This is confirmed by the current incumbent, Didier Deschamps, who is already exploring coaching positions in the Saudi League for next season.

Deschamps knows his track record, including the 2018 World Cup title and the 2022 final appearance, will open doors to top Saudi clubs.

Meanwhile, Zidane has reportedly rejected all other lucrative and sporting offers to remain patient. He has always prioritized his sporting reputation, and accepting a job in a precarious situation could have jeopardized his ultimate goal.

Zidane was, however, recently seen at the Bernabeu on Sunday, attending the NFL game at the iconic stadium – an event also attended by Antoine Griezmann and Koke.
