Barcelona’s move for Julián Álvarez has stalled, Cadena SER reports. The striker now looks likelier to remain at the Metropolitano, with Arsenal the only alternative and not one that convinces him.

Atlético are planning with Álvarez and Miguel Ángel Gil Marín does not want to sell to Barça. Although Arsenal have emerged as an option, the player is not considering a switch to London.

Álvarez, 26, was born on 31 January 2000 in Calchín, Argentina. Primarily a centre forward, he can operate across the front line. He joined Atlético in August 2024 on a deal running to 2030.

His all-round game, from pressing to movement into channels, helps explain Barça’s interest and Atlético’s reluctance to cash in. Last season he produced 20 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

He features in next season’s plans amid flux in attack. Antoine Griezmann has agreed to join Orlando City from summer 2026, Alexander Sørloth is contracted until 2028, and market uncertainty surrounds Thiago Almada and Nico González.

Atlético are under no pressure to sell. They are not entertaining Barça’s proposals and would not even discuss terms around €100m, with talks only likely if an exceptional bid arrives.

For an exit to happen this summer, several pieces must align, a game changing offer, a shift in the player’s stance and a credible replacement. Until then, the World Cup winner remains central to Diego Simeone’s plans.
