With the institutional relationship between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid at an all-time low, the Spanish capital club are continuing to escalate things with regard to the Negreira case.

Following Barcelona’s decision to reconcile with UEFA and the ECA, and in turn abandon the Super League, Real Madrid have been launching attacks, first through Florentino Perez’s speeches, and also through their actions in court.

Real Madrid consider seeking compensation

AS now reports that Real Madrid does not intend to stop at the current judicial process and plan to go further.

Within the strategy being considered is the possibility of seeking multi-million-euro compensation from Barcelona for damages arising from the payments made to Negreira.

Among the issues under scrutiny are the reports on matches and tournaments that had not yet taken place, boxes filled with alleged reports that were shown but never reached the coaching staff, as confirmed by those involved in their statements to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Furthermore, Real Madrid also argue that there are contradictions in the testimony of Barcelona executives before the court regarding their knowledge of the €8.4 million paid to the then vice-president of the Referees’ Technical Committee, Negreira.

Several months ago, Real Madrid succeeded in having the investigation extended until 1 March. It was followed up with the questioning of Laporta. Now, the request for audits and documentation is the next step, but it will not be the last.

It remains to be seen how Barcelona respond to this development as the two clubs return to what many see as their natural state: viewing their arch-rival as an enemy.
