Juventus made an enquiry to sign Everton striker Beto on a loan deal before the transfer deadline, per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

But the Toffees have rejected their enquiry as they have no intention of losing the 28-year-old in the middle of the season.

Juventus are in the market for a new centre-forward, and they have explored a move for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Serie A giants held talks with Mateta’s representatives, but they were not prepared to match Palace’s £35 million valuation for the player.

Juve turned their attention to Beto, but Everton are reluctant to sanction an exit, with little time left in the winter window to sign a replacement.

Thierno Barry is David Moyes’ first-choice striker this season, but Beto has also been an important squad player.

The former Udinese star has made 24 appearances and eight starts in the Premier League, netting three goals in the process.

His most recent strike came in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion where he scored in stoppage-time to rescue a point for the visitors.

Everton are yet to make a new signing this winter, despite losing their key star Jack Grealish to a long-term foot injury.

The 30-year-old is set to undergo surgery and will likely not play again this season.

But they face competition from Sunderland for the England U21 international.
