Jhon Lucumí is attracting fresh interest from Juventus, Roma and Bournemouth, with a summer deal of around £17.5m to £19.3m under discussion. Tutto Juve reports that no club is currently ready to activate his €28m release clause, roughly £24.6m, which runs until mid-July, and that Bologna could negotiate at €20m to €22m once it lapses. A resolution is considered unlikely before the end of June.

Sunderland made a concerted attempt to sign the Colombia international after promotion, submitting bids and a wage proposal, and he was open to the move at one stage. Bologna, having lost other defenders, refused to sanction a sale and the move collapsed. The Black Cats did not revisit the deal in January.

Lucumí, 27, has one year left on his Bologna contract after joining from Genk in 2022. He has since become a key figure, making 149 appearances for the Rossoblù, winning the Coppa Italia in 2024-25 and helping secure Champions League qualification.

This season he has recorded a team-high 168 defensive contributions in Serie A. He is averaging 1.4 interceptions and 0.5 blocks per 90 minutes, ranking first and second respectively among Bologna players.

Without a new deal, this summer may be Bologna’s final chance to command a significant fee. The clause gives suitors a clear price for now, while talk of a lower figure later could encourage clubs to wait. Barcelona have previously been credited with monitoring him, and his agent has signalled the defender is settled in Italy and focused on Bologna.

A strong World Cup with Colombia could raise interest and strengthen Bologna’s hand, although his contract position leaves the club in a delicate spot.
