Kaoru Mitoma returned for Brighton at Anfield, delivering a lively half-hour cameo that hinted at growing sharpness.
Introduced for the final half-hour as Albion chased a result against Liverpool, he immediately stretched the game. According to TheArgus.co.uk, Seagulls boss Hurzeler felt it was important he was back and said he had made a good start after a long injury, adding he seemed in a good place and that the focus now is on restoring his best shape.
His best opening came from a slick one-two with Georginio Rutter, ending with a driven cross across the face that evaded a finishing touch.
Mitoma had not featured since the win at Chelsea almost three months ago. He drew extra attention, attracting a second defender in Dominik Szoboszlai as the champions sat in a low block at Anfield.
He now has a full week on the training pitch. Outside the camp, the expectation will be that he starts at home to Sunderland next Saturday.
Tommy Watson did not make the squad and will hope to change that against his old club.
