Congratulations to Khiara Keating, who made her first senior appearance for England on Saturday 25 October.
The goalkeeper was named in Sarina Wiegman’s starting XI ahead of the Lionesses’ friendly with Brazil at the Etihad Stadium which ended with the visitors coming out victorious with a 2-1 win over the European champions.
Keating’s debut has made herthe first ethnic minority goalkeeper to represent the reigning European champions.
She was joined by City skipper Alex Greenwood in the starting line-up, with Laura Blindkilde Brown an unused substitute.
Keating received her first senior call-up in October 2023 after an excellent start to the 2023/24 campaign and has been a consistent figure in Lionesses’ squads since.
This includes her selection in England’s 2025 UEFA Euros roster before Wiegman’s side triumphed in Switzerland following a penalties victory over Spain in the final.
The academy graduate became a regular between the sticks for City across 2023/24, featuring in all of our Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures.
She more than repaid the faith put in her, with the stopper playing an important role in City boasting the best defensive record in the WSL, conceding just 14 goals in total.
Her stellar contributions also saw her become the first City goalkeeper to claim the WSL Golden Glove since Ellie Roebuck in 2019/20, with her nine clean sheets the best in the top flight.
The 21-year-old then followed that up with 19 appearances in all competitions last term, keeping six clean sheets and producing particularly outstanding displays against Hammarby and Chelsea, to name just two.
And so far this term, she has made three appearances in all competitions – contributing to wins over Brighton and Spurs in the WSL before making a vital save in our penalties victory over Newcastle in the Subway Women’s League Cup.
Congratulations to Khiara on another incredible milestone in her career!
