Kevin Thomson ‘criticises’ Rangers star Skov Olsen’s debut | OneFootball

In a previous entry, we discussed Kevin Thomson and comments he made about Andreas Skov Olsen.

Those comments summed up why the former Rangers youth coach has not cracked football as a serious coach or manager. He was half decent at Kelty Hearts. But even there, Barry Ferguson exceeded him at the same club.

At Rangers, he was unceremoniously dumped as a youth coach. He then took to the press to complain about not being given a reason. The reason is he is not that great.

We are not even sure he’s a genius, exactly. We do not know the man personally. We will not slaughter his character or intelligence. However, his performances on Rangers TV are never that good.

The Skov Olsen comments

His latest corker came when discussing Skov Olsen. It showed his own ignorance. During Skov Olsen’s debut, he described the Dane as confusing.

He explained he could not understand Skov Olsen position. He questioned whether he was inside or outside. He wondered if he was overlapping or cutting in. He questioned cutting out or crossing. He said he could not tell.

The real issue

The problem is Skov Olsen has already explained his role. Andreas Skov Olsen is not a classic winger who just runs and crosses. That is not necessarily what he does.

He explained he is flexible. He has variety to his game. He will cut inside. He will switchoutside. He will cross. He will cut back. He will dribble. He will beat players.

He will do everything a general attacker does. He is not a pure old fashioned winger.

Versatility ignored

He is a winger. He is also versatile. He can do more than just play wide.

If Thomson had done his research, he would know that. If he listened to Skov Olsen, he would know that too.

Final thought

The fact is Skov Olsen is a quality addition. We will see how much quality appears in time. Already, Skov Olsen is a much better player than Kevin Thomson is a co commentary pundit.

Maybe he should stick to whatever it is he is actually good at.
