As Real Madrid gear up to face Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup quarter-final, manager Xabi Alonso has more than just the opponent to worry about.
Two of his most important players, Vinicius and Jude Bellingham, are walking a tightrope when it comes to potential suspensions.
Vinicius was already on the verge of suspension when he played against Juventus, while Bellingham picked up a yellow card in that same match.
If either player receives another yellow card against Dortmund, they will miss the semifinals, which would be a major setback for Real Madrid.
FIFA’s rules state that yellow cards are wiped clean after the semifinals. However, if a player collects two yellows before then, they must serve a suspension even if their team progresses.
This puts extra pressure on Vinicius and Bellingham to play smartly and avoid unnecessary fouls in Saturday’s quarter-final clash in New York.
Losing either of them for the semifinal would seriously weaken Real Madrid’s attack and midfield, considering both have been vital in getting the team this far.

As reported before, Club president Florentino Perez has made it crystal clear to the entire squad that the Club World Cup is a serious objective for Real Madrid. He does not want the players to treat the competition as just another preseason-like tournament.
His message has been heard throughout the locker room, adding motivation for the players to stay focused and disciplined.
The Club World Cup is a big part of Real Madrid’s ambitions this season, and the team is determined to bring the trophy home. The recent change in management has already given the squad a boost, with Alonso bringing fresh ideas and energy.
But if key stars like Vinicius or Bellingham miss games due to suspension, it could disrupt their momentum.
Avoiding yellow cards will be crucial for Real Madrid if they want to reach the final with their best team intact and meet Perez’s high expectations.
