KV Mechelen have beaten a number of other European sides to the signing of Lovro Golic from AS Roma. The 19-year-old defender from Slovenia has signed a contract in Mechelen until 2029. Previously of Slovenian side Domzale, Golic has been at Roma for some time playing in the youth teams. However, his contract was up this summer and he has decided to move to Belgium. There was interest in the defender from Italy, Germany and England, but Mechelen have managed to persuade the teenager to join them. Golic was part of the Slovenian U21 side that competed at this summers U21 Euros.
Mechelen have been active in the transfer window this summer. So far they have signed Tommy St Jago, Tijn Van Ingelgom, Gora Diouf, Ryan Teague and now Golic. There is still some work to be done, with some players also expected to leave this summer. A striker, or some reinforcements in attack, are likely needed if some players like Nikola Storm depart.
