Kylian Mbappe may have had a difficult first two seasons at Real Madrid, but he’s certainly loving life in the Spanish capital – that’s despite reports that he is not entirely welcome in the dressing room. He failed to win a major trophy since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, but he has found the back of the net 86 times in 103 appearances.
Speaking to Sorare (via Diario AS), Mbappe opened up on life at Real Madrid, with whom he hopes to make a big impact over the coming years.
“It’s how I imagined it. For many, apart from Barça fans, it is the biggest club in the world. I think it’s clear to everyone. It is the club that represents and characterizes greatness. Barça has impacted the history of football in one way or another, but Real Madrid is the preferred club worldwide. I’m happy, proud to be able to play for this club. I want to mark the history of Real Madrid, because if you mark the history of the greatest club in the world, you have your place in the history of football.”
Mbappe also picked out the best moment of his first two seasons at the Bernabeu, which was his hat-trick against Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie during the 2024-25 season.
“When I scored the hat-trick against Manchester City. That’s like going to 100. It was the Champions League, a knockout match, I scored the treble against the Bernabeu.”

Mbappe was asked about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, whom many consider to be the two best footballers in history. He also addressed claims that the Argentine is more of a naturally-talented player, with the Portuguese being a harder worker.
“I played with Messi, I played against Cristiano. Cristiano is my idol, but I played with Leo as well and for having played against both of them, they are actually very different. They are not the same. I think the rivalry between them was good. If you tell me that Ronaldo has no talent or that Messi has not worked, it means that you have never in your life started training every day.”
