Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso says Kylian Mbappe will be assessed to determine the severity of the ankle injury he suffered against Villarreal.

The Frenchman scored his side’s third as Vinicius Junior netted a double in a 3-1 win for Madrid.

But he was forced off shortly afterwards, and Alonso says he is unsure whether he and Argentinian Franco Mastantuono, who also suffered an injury concern, will go with their national teams over the international break.

“We can’t say that they won’t go with the national teams,” he said.

“They’ll have to be assessed there and we hope it doesn’t get any worse. They have minor injuries and I can’t say any more than that.”

The Real boss also says Jude Bellingham, who was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, will benefit from having two weeks of training having recently returned from a long-standing shoulder injury.

“When he comes back, with two more weeks of training, he’ll be better every day and he’ll be important for the October phase,” he said.

“We now have that time because we’ve lost a lot of the pre-season. We have a busy schedule ahead of us with Getafe, Juve, Barcelona.”
