A protracted legal conflict stemming from La Liga's 2015/16 television revenue distribution has reached its final judicial chapter, resulting in a substantial financial penalty for the Spanish football league. After years of litigation that ascended through the National Court, the Supreme Court of Spain has issued a definitive ruling on the case.

According to a report from Marca, the core of the dispute centered on the "unlawful distribution of television revenue" for that season. The high court's decision mandates a significant payout from La Liga.

The ruling specifies that "La Liga must pay €8.8 million to Real Madrid." Furthermore, a much larger sum of "€88 million will be allocated among 22 clubs that competed in Spain’s second division at the time," providing considerable compensation to the affected lower-division sides.

This financial verdict concludes a major off-pitch saga, even as on-field harmony is reported at one of the clubs involved. It was recently confirmed that the reported "dispute between Vinícius and Xabi Alonso has been completely resolved," with the player now "fully confident in Real Madrid’s project and in Alonso’s work." The resolution of this long-running legal battle marks the closing of one contentious era for Spanish football's administration.
