La Liga president Javier Tebas has moved to clarify that he and the Spanish football authorities have not banned the flag of Palestine from stadiums across the country’s top-flight.

This comes after it was confirmed that one of La Liga’s leading clubs have put in place such a policy.

Over the course of the last week, a contingent of Real Madrid supporters went viral across social media.

This came after the fans in question posted videos of themselves being denied entry to the Santiago Bernabéu, owing to possession of Palestinian flags.

Speaking during an exchange with the media this weekend, the aforementioned Javier Tebas was therefore asked whether these actions came at the request of La Liga themselves.

The Spaniard, however, denied any such suggestions, in explaining:

“Palestinian flags not allowed at the Bernabéu? No, La Liga does not and will not ban Palestinian flags. As long as things are done within the regulations and the sport isn’t interrupted, it is okay. What’s happening in Gaza is very difficult and harsh.”
