Even before the final results of the Barcelona presidential election were officially announced, candidate Victor Font had already acknowledged that victory was slipping away.
As the counting of votes continued and early projections strongly favoured Joan Laporta, Font chose to address the media and accept the likely outcome with complete calmness.
According to Mundo Deportivo, after finishing the questions from the media, Font walked directly toward Laporta’s campaign booth.
Font approached the re-elected president and the two men greeted each other warmly before sharing an embrace.
During the brief exchange, both candidates shared words that reflected their shared passion for Barcelona. “Visca el Barça and visca Catalunya,” Font began.
“Well said,” replied Laporta.
“Now, let’s win the Champions League,” Font replied.
“First, let’s knock out Newcastle and keep it up in La Liga. We played a good game today,” Laporta said, referring to the 5-2 win over Sevilla.
The exchange ended with another embrace between the two figures, a moment that was widely interpreted as a sign of unity following a competitive election campaign.
Before leaving the area, both Laporta and Font raised their voices once more in support of the club. “Visca el Barça.”
Shortly afterwards, the candidates went their separate ways and returned to their respective campaign tents as the vote counting continued.
Moments later, the club released updated figures showing that nearly 75% of the ballots had been counted, with Laporta approaching 70% of the vote, confirming the scale of his victory.
Later, it was confirmed that Laporta has been re-elected as the Barcelona president with 32,934 votes, accounting for 68.18% of the total.
