Roma wants to kick off the new year with a bang, with a transfer that would immediately strengthen the Giallorossi’s attacking line.
Sporting director Frederic Massara has reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Giacomo Raspadori on loan with an option to buy in June.
The deal could reach a total value of €22 million, with conditions that could transform the option into an obligation, such as qualification for the Champions League.
After an initial offer of €3 million for the loan and €15 million for the option to buy, Roma has raised the stake, but a definitive yes from the player is still pending.
Despite Roma’s strong interest, Lazio could enter the deal.
With Castellanos’ imminent transfer to West Ham, the Biancocelesti would have the budget to immediately acquire Raspadori, attempting to turn the situation around. In this scenario, Sarri could be the Formello club’s ace in the hole, ready to focus on the young Italian talent, offering him a role similar to Mertens’s at Napoli.
Roma is ahead in the race for Raspadori, but the player will have to decide whether to continue his adventure in Spain, under Simeone, or return to Italy for more playing time, after only 400 minutes this season—too few for a player with the national team.
A transfer window that will be decided in the coming days.
