Lazio are reportedly open to keeping Mario Gila beyond next summer, even if that risks losing him for free a year later.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Inter and AC Milan are the most serious suitors, and that president Claudio Lotito will not sell the defender cheaply.

Lotito has set a firm valuation, taking into account Real Madrid’s 50% sell-on clause. With no progress towards an extension before June 2027, he could either accept his price or keep Gila for another season.

Inter are assessing successors to veterans Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, while Milan could seek an upgrade on Matteo Gabbia and Koni De Winter.

The centre-back, 25, joined the Biancocelesti in summer 2022 and has also attracted Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Everton.

The report adds that a ruling by Serie A’s supervisory committee on Lazio’s finances could be pivotal. A green light would allow normal trading, while a zero-cost mercato would mean signings only after sales, which could make a Gila exit necessary.
